The dance of healing
learning to care for yourself is one of the most spiritual things you can do
Do you know that it usually costs less
to fix a car before it breaks down entirely?
I was in White Sands, New Mexico
to record an online course on spiritual authority (launching soon!)
last summer.
As I pulled out of the park,
My brake lights came on.
White Sands is 3.5 hours through desert
back to Santa Fe, where I was staying.
Now,
I had noticed that my stopping distance was significantly reduced.
But I waited for the light to come on.
Boy, that was a long scary drive
Especially since New Mexico was experiencing a rare monsoon rain.
Deserts don’t have good drainage
So when it rains, it doesn’t just pour…
It floods.
The worst monsoon of my life was on the tarmac en route to Baghdad.
We waited nearly three hours for the rain to stop so we could go.
The attendants would just shrug.
"We just have to wait for the rain to stop”
There is usually not a lot of rain in a desert.
Happy to say that I made it.
I drove my car straight to Santa Fe,NM and took the car immediately to the mechanic the next day.
When I picked up the car
(Thank God that New Mexico mechanics are excellent
And not that expensive)
they looked at me.
“Most people would have just kept going on a brake light.
Good on you for coming in.”

But see, I’ve learned.
I drove my body into the ground in graduate school
Ignoring every check engine light.
Not getting healed up is costly.
And getting healed will accelerate
The vehicle of growth.
Emotionally, I often find that my body follows my spirit.
But my emotions follow my body.
When my body is out of whack,
my emotions follow on a free fall.
This is what I did after a stressful 18 months last year-
I went to New Mexico for three weeks.
New Mexico is a great place for healing, for me.
It was fairly inexpensive to spend three weeks there.
But frankly, it was worth nearly any price.
Swimming in hot springs
(aka deliberately taking my body into healing fevers)
Drenching myself in sun
(covered in light)
Eating real, local food at the coop
(giving my body molecules to work with)
Moving my body
(Shaking off trauma)
Swinging in hammocks
(calming the nervous system.)
Rest, health, peace.
These things bring capacity and abundance.
I’ve learned that in order to speed up, you have to slow down.
Sharing more on the podcast this month, with a ton of guests… but my story is first:
Wishing you simple ways to heal and repair.

I recorded a course in the Northern New Mexico Mountains on finding physical health.
It’s largely about habit forming, giving yourself things to do that build your body
And understanding how that will impact you spiritually.
If you’re interested, it’s here.
